Ireland overpowered UAE by 4 wickets to start the Tri-series on winning note. Winning the toss, Ireland’s skipper, Willian Poterfield opted to field first. Ireland succeed to stop UAE on the decent total of 222 runs in prescribed 50 over’s with the help of sensible death bowling from Boyd Rankin and Barry McCarthy. For UAE, Rameez Shahzad topped their scorecard with 75 runs off 111 balls which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. For Ireland, it was their collective bowling effort as Boyd Rankin, Barry McCarthy, Petter Chase and Kelvin O’Brien managed to pick up two wickets each.
In second inning, UAE got the ideal start and sent two Irish batsmen back into pavilion on the score of just 5 runs. Mohammad Naveed send back Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie on his 1st and 2nd over respectively. UAE continued their admirable bowling and sent back William Poterfield, Niall O’Brien and Kelvin O’Brien on quick succession and procured 5 wickets for 91 runs. But 131 runs partnership between Ed Joyce and Garry Wilson for 6th wickets sealed the match for Ireland.
Ed Joyce scored 116 runs off 149 balls with the help of 13 fours and a six. It was his 6th ODI century and 1st against UAE. His partner, Wilson also scored handy 53 runs off 83 balls with 3 fours. For UAE, Mahammad Naveed picked up two wickets where Rohan Mustafa and Zahoor Khan also managed to pick up a wicket each. Ed Joyce was declared as player of the match for his match winning ton.
They will again face each other on January 13.
