Sri Lankan women edged Bangladeshi women to register their first win of the competition. They overcame Bangladesh by 29 runs to keep their semi-final’s hope alive.
Lankan were asked to bat first today on Gros Islet by Bangladesh’s skipper Salma Khatun. Jahanara Alam uprooted Yasoda Mendis’s (00) stump on the first ball of the innings and provided Bangladesh a early breakthrough. Alam continued the momentum throughout the innings and accounted maximum 3 wickets in her worthy 4 overs’s spell, expensing just 21 runs of it. Kubra, Ahmed and Khatun also picked up a wicket each to restrict Lankan on the decent total of 97 runs. Siriwardene scored maximum 31 runs for Lankan, facing 33 balls with 2 fours and a six.
In reply, Bangladesh remained 25 runs behind as Sri Lanka kept on picking wickets on continue intervals. Athapaththu bagged maximum 3 wickets for Lankan followed by 2 wickets each for Prabodhani and Siriwardene. Nigar Sultana topped Bangladesh’s batting card with 20 runs on her tally. Siriwardene was adjudged as player of the match for her all round contribution. And with this defeat, Bangladesh is still searching for their first win.
