UAE fell short of Irish’s challenge

Ireland surpassed UAE by 67 runs to registered back to back in the Tri-series. Winning the toss, Ireland opted to bat first. Ireland posted the massive total of 301 runs in stipulated 50 overs with the lost of 5 wickets.

Skipper William Poterfield lead the batting unit and scored 139 runs in 147 balls to registered his 10th ODI century. His massive inning included 15 fours and 2 sixes. He was well supported by Andrew Balbirnie. The Balbirnie and Porterfield duo added 201 runs for 2nd wicket before Balbirnie departed for his 102 runs off 109 balls. His maiden century included 12 fours and a six. For UAE, their skipper Rohan Mustafa picked up 2 wickets where Zahoor Khan, Qadeer Ahmed and Mohammad Naveed managed to pick up a wicket each.

In reply, UAE never looked like they can chase down this massive target set by Ireland as they kept on losing wickets in quick succession. Hence, UAE could only muster 234 while chasing 302. Rameez Shahzad topped their scorecard with well composed 50 off 56 balls which included 6 fours. For Ireland, Kelvin O’Brien grabbed four scalps of UAE. He sent back Muhammad Usman, Mohammad Boota, Adnan Mufti and Zahoor Khan. He was well supported by Barry McCarthy from another end with 2 wickets in his name. William Poterfield was elected as Man Of The Match for his brilliant century.

Ireland will play against Scotland on January 16 where UAE is scheduled to face Scotland on January 21.
