Monty Desai to serve as batting coach for Afghanistan’s Senior side.

He was associated with Rajestan Royal and Gujarat Lions in Indian Premier League. He was working as batting consultant of Nepal U19s cricket team recently. Even Nepal’s senior side approached him as batting coach for ICC WCL Division II but he refused to serve for such shorter period of time. ICC didn’t gave permission to included him as Nepal’s batting coach for longer period hence, Sulakshan Kulkarni will serve Nepal as a batting coach for Division II. Afghanistan is preparing for ICC World Cup Qualifier 2018 which will be held in Zimbabwe on March. They are placed in Group “B” of the tournament which also consists of  host Zimbabwe, Scotland, Hong Kong and Division II runner-up. They add Monty as their batting coach to add some new syllabus in their batting department.

“Monty is a great addition to our side and I’m sure we’ll benefit from the rich experience that he brings to the table. His expertise will come in handy as we prepare for WC qualifiers. It was a great experience to be part of the 2015 World Cup and we hope to make the cut this time as well,” Shafiq Stanikzai, the chief executive of Afghanistan Cricket Board, told TOI on Wednesday morning.
Monty was recently part of the Nepal under-19 squad as a batting consultant and also enjoyed a stint with the Canada national side. “He has a proven track record of bringing the best out of whichever side he has been part of. That was the reason we approached him and I am glad he is part of the team,” added Stanikzai.
